advice please

Hi! A friend of the family has a male Old English Bulldog and we fell in love with him! We are going to pick out our special baby tomorrow. Does anyone have some advice for me such as the best quality food,best shampoo to use, or basically any help at all for this newbie? I researched the breed but I would rather hear from someone who has experience with the breed. Thanks everyone.
